I QUIT WOW ITS BEEN ALMOST A MONTH
Prejudice against WoW
•February 28, 2008 • 3 CommentsNow, it has always been a recurring event, people looking down on, and or making fun of other kids just because they play a certain video game instead of going out and getting drunk and partying on the weekends. Now there is a singular game that is the target of all the insults, attacks, and taunting, World of Warcraft. I will say right now, I play WoW, and I thought the same thing once. “Oh you play WoW, yeah… goodbye.” Here are a few reasons that I think you should kick around in your head before you try to insult or demean anyone for playing.
1. Hanging out with friends.
2. Learning an Instrument
3. Going to Concerts/movies
4. Having Girlfriend/Boyfriend
5. Get a job
6. Costs money to play
7. Go partying
8. Kills brain cells/attention span.
9.And my personal favorite, “WoW is a waste of time.”
Now lets go over a few of these….
1. I hang out with friends all the time. Yes I do often play WoW when im hanging out at a friends house, but non the less we are hanging out and talking to each other. It’s not like just because I play the game means I never see daylight. Yes, quite a few people do spend too much time playing, and yes a big percent of them that play excessively are overweight, but not everyone. Ive been playing WoW for almost 2 years now, and I am in good shape. There is also a such thing as hanging out with friends too much. I know for a fact thats true, if you hang out with a person to long you will eventually start disagreeing on things and getting on each others nerves.
2. Learning an Instrument. Im all for learning an instrument, why should WoW get in the way of you doing that. Why cant you do both? Is playing this advanced game not like learning an instrument? The more i play, the better i get.
3. Concerts/Movies. I go see movies all the time, i love them, who doesn’t, and for concerts, i guarantee you that I would go to any if i was aloud to, and if any bands that were actually good (in my opinion) would come close to where i live, unluckily for me, this town is not that big of a place. Another thing about concerts is, a lot of parents wont let their kids go to them, not just because of money but because of the things that go on at concerts.
4. Girlfriends/Boyfriends. I had a girlfriend for a long time while I was playing WoW. Yes we spent a lot of time together and it did take away from WoW time but who cares. Blizzard,(creator of WoW) has over 10 million subscribers. Out of that many people, how many do you suppose are married, how many are older than the age of 30, how many are dating? I talk to people all the time who are married in real life and play WoW together. More couples than you think play this oh so time wasting game.
5. Having a job. Before i even knew about this game I had a job. The job is what led me onto the game, because with a job i started getting an income, not a big one but an income is an income. Having the job let me be able to pay for such game, and the computer(s) i built to play games on.
6. Costs money to play. I’m not sure about you, but i have a soda or two every day, a lot of you do the same. A lot of you even have energy drinks daily, which if you don’t know are really expensive if you have them that often. In just 15 days of not buying 1 soda each day you will have enough to pay for it, and if you do not buy energy drinks all those days, in half that time you will have the money to pay for it. Its not like to play this game you have to be rich. In fact if you compare this hobby to any other, i am sure its the cheapest. 15$ a month to do something you like is a really good deal. For example learning an instrument, lets say you wanted to learn how to play drums. Well a drum set isn’t exactly a cheap thing to get.
7. Partying. Whats so great about going out and getting so wasted you couldn’t crawl home? Not to mention having a big headache the next day. The price of alcohol is not exactly in anyones favor either. I am also not a big fan of throwing up never have been and never will. What is the fun in getting drunk if your just going to regret it the day after?
8. Kills braincells/attentionspan. In this game, you actually do something besides stare meaninglessly into the monitor. You interact with millions of people, learn how an economy works, you can even construct and organize raids. I wont go into detail on those, but in a nutshell its a dungeon, 10 to 25man raid, and you have to coordinate and kill bosses that can last anywhere from 3-20 minuets each. Now tell me how that would make you lose any brain cells or attention span doing that.
9. Is WoW a waste of time. Nothing is a waste of time if your having fun doing it.
